Former interior minister Ahmad Jalali to head Afghan transitional administration

Date:

Former Interior Minister of Afghanistan, Ahmad Jalali will lead the transitional government in Afghanistan, Al Arabiya TV channel reported, according to TASS.

According to information from diplomatic sources, Jalali has reportedly been chosen as head of the transitional government of Afghanistan. He assumed the duties of the head of the interim administration in Afghanistan, the TV channel said.

Pakistan's GEO TV said that "Abdullah Abdullah, the head of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation, is acting as the arbitrator in the negotiations" between the Taliban and the government in Kabul.

When Taliban militants started entering Kabul Sunday morning, Afghanistan’s Acting Interior Minister Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal told the TOLOnews television channel later on Sunday that the city would not be stormed.  The transition of power will be peaceful, he assured the city residents.

Meanwhile, two Taliban officials told Reuters on Sunday there would be no transitional government in Afghanistan and that the group expects a complete handover of power.
