Rahmon extends condolences to leaders of Japan and China over deadly floods

President Emomali Rahmon has extended condolences to leaders of Japan and China over deadly floods that his the countries on July 3, according t the Tajik president’s official website. 

In his message to Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Rahmon noted that he was deeply by the tragic loss of lives and extensive damage caused by floods and landslides in southern Japan.

Tajik leader also extended condolences to relatives of those who lost their lives and wished a quick recovery to the injured.

In his message to China President Xi Jinping, Emomali Rahmon said that it was with great sadness that he heard the tragic news of loss of lives and extensive damage caused by devastating floods in a number of southern regions of China.  

He asked to convey his sincere condolences to relatives of those who lost their lives and wished a quick recovery to the injured. 

About two million people were reportedly evacuated in Japan after rivers burst their banks.  At least 155 people have died in floods and landslides triggered by torrential rain in southwestern Japan.  It is the highest death toll caused by rainfall that Japan has seen in more than three decades.

Torrential rains have been pounding large areas of China, triggering floods, mudslides and destroying roads as local authorities scramble to send in rescuers.  State media reported that the deadly floods had affected around 19,380,000 people as of July 3, 2020.  At least 121 people were reportedly dead or missing.
