Torrential rain and heavy snowfall on January 6 caused an avalanche near Savnob village in Bartang jamoat of Rushan district in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) that blocked the road connecting the administrative center of Rushan district with Bartang jamoat, the press center of the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan said Friday (January 7) afternoon. 

No injured was reported, according to the source.

The avalanche reportedly occurred on the 92nd kilometers of the Rushan-Bartang road.  The work on clearing the road of snow is still underway, and therefore, the road is temporarily closed for traffic, the press center says.   

The Emergencies Committee advises people throughout much of the country not to travel unnecessarily to mountain areas.

The Emergencies Committee also calls on residents and guests of Tajikistan to be careful and in case of emergencies call the following phone numbers: 112; and 93 880 28 19.
