On the occasion of Mother’s Day, which is celebrated in Tajikistan on March 8, a number of cultural activities will be carried out in Dushanbe from March 5 through March 8, according to the Dushanbe City hall.

A festive concert will take place at the Kokhi Surush Business Center in Dushanbe on March 5.

Besides, the Dushanbe Directorate for Sports and Youth Affairs organizes a festive action from March 5 through March 8.

In public places of the Tajik capital, young people will give flowers to women, a source within the Directorate for Sports and Youth Affairs told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“Directorate for Sports and Youth Affairs also organizes volunteer points, where  those who wish can call their moms and congratulate them on their holiday,” the source added.

By president’s decree of March 6, 2009 women’s holiday is now known in Tajikistan as the Day of the Mother.

Congratulating Tajik women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, President Emomali Rahmon noted on 2009 that International Women's Day has only been celebrated on March 8 for about 100 years, while ancient Aryans — the ancestors of the Tajiks — had special days both for mothers, specifically, and for women in general.  President Rahmon proposed to mark March 8 as the Day of the Mother.
