The cost of products of the food industry increases in Tajikistan on average by 3.9%

Over the first three months of this year, inflation in Tajikistan’s consumer goods sector has stood at 2.4 percent, which is 0.9 percent lower than in the same period last year, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

Meanwhile, the cost of products of the food industry over reporting period has reportedly increased in Tajikistan on average by 3.9 percent, and an average monthly increase in food prices over the three months of this year was about 1.3 percent.

The increase in cost of products of the food industry was reportedly caused by a 21.1-percent increase in prices for vegetables; 10.1 percent rise in prices for sugar; 9.9-percent rise in prices for milk and dairy products; bakery products and cereals – 5.5 percent; fishes – 5.0 percent; and fruits – 2.5 percent. 

In January-March this year, non-foodstuffs reportedly rose in cost on average 1.5 percent with the prices increasing most significantly for the following goods: pharmaceutical products – 7.6 percent; diesel fuel – 8.0 percent; gasoline – 2.9 percent; and detergents –1.5 percent; and clothes – 0.2.  

Meanwhile, prices and rates for services rendered to the population have reportedly decreased by 0.3 percent over the reporting period.  

The Statistics Agency notes that prices and rates for services rendered to the population have decreased over the reporting period due to a 5.9 percent decline in prices for the liquefied natural gas (LNG); prices for airline tickets – 3.4 percent; rates for cargo shipments – 0.9 percent; and  public transportation services – 0.5 percent.  

Recall, the year-end inflation in Tajikistan’s consumer goods sector last year stood at 8.0 percent.

Last year, products of the food industry, non-foodstuffs as wells prices and rates for services rendered to the population rose in cost on average 7.3 percent, 7.5 percent and 11.3 percent respectively.
