Tajikistan’s upper house (Majlisi Milli) of parliament Rustam Emomali, who is currently on his official visit to Turkmenistan, yesterday met in Ashgabat with Chairperson of Halk Maslahaty (Turkmenistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.

Majlisi Milli’s press center says Rustam Emomali conveyed to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow “brotherly greetings and  best wishes of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.”  

The parties reportedly discussed prospects of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan as well as significant aspects trade, transportation and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

Emomali and Berdimuhamedow also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.   

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan’s Orient news agency says the parties noted with satisfaction that the volume of the bilateral trade in 2021 tripled compared to previous years, and this trend has continued this year.  In particular, significant progress has reportedly been made in energy, transport and industry.

In order to expand cultural and humanitarian ties, it was proposed to increase the number of educational scholarships from both sides and to consider organizing Days of Turkmen Culture in Tajikistan in the near future.

Orient reports that Rustam Emomali yesterday also met with the Chairperson of the Mejlis (the lower chamber of the Turkmen Parliament), Ms. Gulshat Mammedowa.

During the meeting, the parties reportedly issues of development of bilateral cooperation, including the expansion of inter-parliamentary contacts.
