In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the Minister of Industry and New Technologies Sherali Kabir noted on July 18 that 2,479 industrial facilities have been registered in Tajikistan as of July 1, 2022.
“In the first half of this year, there were 673 enterprises in the country, or 27.15 percent of the overall number, which were not in operation,” the minister said.
According to him, the idle enterprises included 583 seasonal enterprises and 77 enterprises that have ceased to operate.
“25 of them are located in Dushanbe, 13 are located in Khatlon province, 47 are located in Sughd province and five are located in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO),” Sherali Kabir said, noting that the main reason for the downtime of these enterprises is the fact that they are at the stage of liquidation and bankruptcy.
He said that the majority of them are experiencing financial difficulties and some others have huge tax debts property disputes with bank.
“Some enterprises are not in operation due to deterioration or lack of necessary production equipment, lack of demand for their products in the market and so forth,” the minister noted.
Kabir further added that 137 new industrial enterprises and 47 industrial workshops have been established in the country over the first six months of this year, creating about 4,000 new jobs.
