Russia’s consulting company FinExpertiza notes that inflow of labor migrants into Russia increased last year by a third.
The inflow of labor migrants from Uzbekistan reportedly grew the most last year – by 377,700 people, or 35.1 percent.
The number of labor migrants coming from Tajikistan reportedly also increased by a comparable amount – by 336,700 people, or 51.8 percent.
FinExpertiza notes that the number of workers coming from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan also increased markedly: by 84,600 people, or 17.7 percent, from Kyrgyzstan; and by 62,000 people, or 118.3 percent, from Kazakhstan.
The inflow of labor migrants coming from Turkmenistan reportedly increased last year by 1,600 people or 12.2 percent.
The number of labor migrants coming to Russia from Azerbaijan, Vietnam, Turkiye and China reportedly also increased last year.
Meanwhile, the number of labor migrants coming to Russia from Armenia, Ukraine and Serbia decreased in 2022: by 15,600 people, or 8.8 percent, from Armenia; by 8,300 people, or 52.3 percent, from Ukraine; and by 800 people, or 19.8 percent, from Serbia.
FinExpertiza notes that the number of citizens of Germany, France, Italy, the United States, the Czech Republic, Austria, and the Netherlands coming to work in Russia also decreased last year.
Outgoing labor migration from Tajikistan has started on a large scale soon after the fall of the Soviet Union. An absolute majority of the Tajik labor migrants have lived and worked in the Russian Federation. As a social phenomenon this migration has a profound impact not only on the lives of the individual migrants or the families who are being supported by a family member working abroad, but also on the Tajik society as a whole and the country’s economy.
