Uzbekistan to train personnel for Tajikistan’s armed forces

The governments of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have reached an agreement on training of personnel for Tajikistan’s armed forces at Uzbek military schools, according to the Ministry of Defense (MoD) of Tajikistan .

A source at a MoD says Tajik citizens have received the right to enter Uzbek higher military schools this year.

The parties are currently discussing the issues related to the cadet quota that will be allotted to Tajikistan and the disciplines they will study at Uzbek military schools.

According to statistical data from the Defense Ministry of Tajikistan, 400 Tajik citizens enter higher military schools annually, including 250 of them entering the Military Institute of the Ministry of Defense of Tajikistan.

The remaining 150 young Tajiks enter higher military schools in Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and now in Uzbekistan in accordance with the government-to-government agreements.

The source further added that by president’s order 80 future officers of the Tajik national army will be admitted to higher military schools without passing exams, only after passing a medical examination and interview.

By president’s order this benefit is given only to orphans, young people left without caregivers, and children from low-income families.
