The Caravan of Health arrives in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region

Date:

The Caravan of Health has arrived in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), the press center of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP) reported on June 13.

40 health workers of various specialties will provide medical services to residents of Ishkashim and Roshtqala districts as well as GBAO’s capital, Khorog, free of charges during three days, according to the MoHPP press center.

Qualified medical specialists will diagnose and advise all applicants until June 16.

Such health caravans had earlier visited Sughd and Khatlon provinces.

The Caravan of Health project aims to improve disease prevention in rural and hard-to-reach areas by organizing preventive check-ups to detect various diseases, including at an early stage.  The project will also develop regulatory and technical documentation for road trains, including technical regulations, standard operating procedures, sanitary and epidemiological standards, and preventive inspection plans based on epidemiological data.

The Caravan of Health project was launched in 2019 on the basis of a grant agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).

A total cost of the project is more than 2 million US dollars and the grant has been extended by the EDB-managed Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD).  These funds were reportedly used to purchase two road trains equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment.
