The Working Group on the multimodal transport corridor Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkiye will hold its first meeting in Dushanbe under the auspices of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on September 21, according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT).
An official source at a MoT says the parties will discuss the development of the international transit corridor, which will help increase cargo transportation and simplify trade procedures, especially for landlocked countries.
According to him, representatives of Iran, Turkiye, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are expected to participate in the meeting.
It is noted that this corridor opens up new opportunities for the lessing of distance and reduction of freight transportation costs and it will contribute to the development of regional economic integration.
The parties are currently working on automation of the management system and introduction of online cargo positioning in the territory of Tajikistan and electronic consignment notes as well as other improvements that will simplify procedures and processes.
Recall, senior officials from Tajikistan and Iran attended the inauguration ceremony in October last year held in Dushanbe of the first freight train from Tajikistan to Turkey, which began its journey through Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran.
The opening ceremony of the multimodal transport corridor along Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey’s territories, was organized by the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan and attended by senior officials from the mentioned countries as well as by transport companies, businessmen, and transport officials.
At the same time, Tajikistan held a logistics conference with the participation of various countries, with bilateral meetings held between the transport ministers of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Iran on the sidelines of the conference regarding the expansion of cooperation, especially in transit.
