On Wednesday October 25, the Governor of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) Alisher Mirzonabot held a meeting to discuss the current socioeconomic situation in the area.

Along with other issues, the issue of Internet and mobile phone communication services was also discussed at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Mirzonabot reportedly expressed serious concern about poor Internet and mobile phone communications in the region.

He noted that this problem needs to be resolved as soon as possible.

“The problem must be resolved as soon as possible, given the remoteness of the region,” the GBAO governor said.

It is to be noted that GBAO is not the only region in the country to complain about poor Internet and cell phone signal.

The chairman of Mastchoh district in Sughd province Azam Alizoda had earlier also expressed dissatisfaction with the poor quality of Internet speed and outdated equipment of companies offering mobile communications services.

Besides, a meeting of the communications service agency with participation of representatives of Internet service providers and mobile phone companies took place in Dushanbe on October 23.  The meeting participants also talked about poor internet and low quality of mobile phone communications in remote mountainous regions.
