DUSHANBE, March 20, 2009, Asia-Plus — On Thursday March 19, the head of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sharif Said, met with the Latvian Ambassador to Tajikistan, Igors Apokins, according the CCI press service.
Chairman of the board of Latvia’s commercial bank, Trust, Igor Buimister, also attended the meeting that focused on state and prospects of further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Latvia.
In the course of the talks, Buimister, in particular, outlined investment, establishment of partnership in the cotton business and development of transit to Europe via the Latvian seaports as areas that could promote expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, the press service said.
For his part, Said noted that Tajikistan’s CCI would like to open its representative office in Riga in order to promote successful cooperation.
The meeting participants also touched upon issues related to mitigating effects of the global financial crisis, implementation of the signed cooperation agreements, as well as holding of joint exhibitions and business forums.
Yesterday afternoon, the Latvian delegation members also held a meeting with a group of Tajik entrepreneurs. The Tajik side was represented by senior representatives from closed joint-stock company (CJSC) Aviakom, joint venture Khlopok (Cotton), open joint-stock company (OJSC) Nafisa, joint-stock company (JSC) Tekstil (Textile), Orienbonk, Eskhata Bank, LLC Dousti, and Easteco International.
