Climate change and the difficult path of feathered wanderers

In recent years, residents of Central Asian countries have keenly felt the consequences of global climate change.  One of the most global and hazardous consequences of such processes is the rapid melting of glaciers.

Scientists say that over the past 40 years, the total area of glaciers in the region has decreased by about 30 percent, leading to the reduction in the water flow of major rivers in Central Asia.

Mountains cover 93 percent of Tajikistan's territory, which is crucial not only for the country but also for neighboring nations.  The territory of Tajikistan is crucial for migratory birds.  Millions of birds settle in Tajikistan or make a short stop here to continue their journey to warm countries.   

More than 40 species of migratory birds can be found in Tajikistan.  Based on their overall status and IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) conservation status, they can be categorized as endangered, vulnerable, and critically endangered.
