Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Rustam Emomali, participated in a session of the Council of the Parliament Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA) that took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan on June 3.
The meeting participants also included Igor Sergeyenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Yerlan Koshanov, Chairman of Mazhilis of Parliament of Kazakhstan, Nourlanbek Shakiyev, Speaker of Kyrgyzstan’s Jokorgu Kenesh, and Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma (Russia’s lower chamber of parliament)
The CSTO’s official website says the meeting participants discussed measures to address challenges and threats to the collective security as well as amendments made to the CSTO PA program of activity on bringing closer and harmonizing the national legislations of the CSTO member nations designed for 2021-2025.
Before the meeting, its participants were received by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. During the meeting, Tokayev reportedly noted that module acts adopted by the CSTO PA are the most important component in strengthening the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
Founded in 1992, the Collective Security Treaty Organization is a Russia-led military alliance currently grouping the six former Soviet republics of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly (CSTO PA) was established in November 2006. The plenary meetings, meetings of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CSTO and its Standing Committees, which are held twice a year, examine the Organization’s activities, the situation in the Organization’s area of responsibility, the implementation status of the decisions of the Organization’s CSC sessions and the tasks of their legal support. The meetings discuss issues of the implementation of the Program for the approximation and harmonization of legislation, the practice of ratification of international treaties concluded within the framework of the CSTO, and other issues.
The Information Analytical Legal Center of the PA CSTO and the Expert Advisory Council under the PA CSTO Council created by the working bodies of the PA CSTO Secretariat make a significant contribution to the activities of the CSTO PA.
Members of the PA CSTO PA made several trips to the collective security regions to study the military-political situation. Parliamentarians visited the Central Asian, Eastern European and Caucasus regions of collective security.
Another of the activities of the parliamentarians of the CSTO member states is the coordination of positions on issues submitted for discussion by the OSCE PA, the texts of the general resolutions of the CSTO member states.
