Dushanbe to host international parliamentary forum on the occasion of the 3rd Water Action Decade Conference

An international parliamentary forum entitled “Water Resources and Demographic Sustainability for the Benefit of Youth” will take place in Dushanbe on June 10. 

An official source within the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) says the forum is held in the framework of the Third High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028 that will take place in the Tajik capital from June 10-13.

The forum reportedly aims to promote implementation of the global initiatives of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon  and “emphasized an active role of Tajikistan in solving water problems at the level of world parliaments, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.”  

Parliamentarians from more than 20 countries of the world, including Japan, Turkiye, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Malaysia, Armenia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Nepal, and Romania, as well as country and regional representatives of international organizations will participate in the event.     

The main objective of this international parliamentary forum is in facilitating dialogue between representatives of parliaments on the issues of implementation of the Program of Actions of the International Conference of Population and Development (ICPD),

The forum participants will discuss issues related to problems of gender equality, demographic sustainability, shortage of water and climate change. 

The forum is expected to result in adoption of the Dushanbe declaration aimed at achieving sustainable development goals.
