Russia has reportedly committed to accepting migrant workers from Afghanistan and providing them with work in certain regions of the country.

Citing Afghanistan’s National Radio and Television, TASS reported that acting Minister of Labor and Social Relations of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Abdul Manan Omari, said this.

According to the Taliban representative, he reached an agreement with head of the Russian Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov and other Russian officials at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).  Omari reportedly specified that conditions for the employment of Afghans will be created by the Russian authorities in regions with the status of republics, including Chechnya and Tatarstan.

An official representative of the Taliban Government, Zabihulla Mojahid, had earlier told TASS that Kabul aims to develop positive relationships with Moscow and he called the SPIEF “an important economic forum, especially from the point of view of development of trade routes.”

Some media reports say representatives of the Taliban movement, which has been in power in Afghanistan since August 2021, arrived at the SPIEF at the invitation of Moscow.  The Afghan delegation stated that the purpose of attending the event for Kabul is to increase the level of economic relations with Russia.

After the Taliban came to power, a large number of Afghan residents wanted to move to Russia, president of the Center for Diasporas of Afghanistan in Russia Ghulam Mohammad Jalal said earlier. According to him, due to the suspension of air traffic between the countries, many did not have the opportunity to get to Russia.
