Three Tajik babies left in Russia without care have been returned to Tajikistan, according to the Tajik Embassy in Moscow.

“The babies were repatriated from Russia to Tajikistan on July 15 under support of the Tajik Embassy Consular Service,” an official source within the Tajik Embassy in Moscow told Asia-Plus.

According to him, the babies were repatriated to Tajikistan in accordance with Chisinau Agreement on the Return of Minor Children to Their Country of Origin, which was signed on October 7, 2002.

The reasons why children ended up without care in Russia are not reported.

Meanwhile, children are usually left without care:

  • When they are left at birth in maternity hospitals;
  • When their parents are under investigation;
  • Due to problems with documents;
  • Due to the death or illness of parents.

The source notes that 38 Tajik minors have been repatriated from Russia to Tajikistan since the beginning of this year.

Recall, three baby girls were repatriated from Russia to Tajikistan on June 18 last year. These babies have reportedly been left by their mothers, nationals of Tajikistan, in maternity hospitals in Russia.  In all, nine minors, including these three baby girls, were repatriated from Russia to Tajikistan over the first six months of last year.

Four other Tajik minors who were left without care in Russia were returned to Tajikistan on June 3 this year.

In cases when Tajik women leave their newborn babies in another country, the relevant authorities inform the Tajik diplomatic mission, and then measures are taken to return them to Tajikistan, in particular, if all necessary documents are collected.
