The Ministry of energy and Water Resources (MoEWR) says that taking into account the previous years, electricity debts have amounted to 3,831,300,000 somonis (about 360 million US dollars) as of July 1, 2024.  

The most incorrigible nonpayers are residential customers – 1,626,400,000 somonis (about 153 million US dollars).  

Among other main debtors for electricity area: Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO) – 492.5 million somonis; Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation – 134.3 million somonis; and federally funded institutions – more than 87.2 million somonis.  

Besides, 1,490,900,000 somonis are owed by other customers.  

Meanwhile, according to data from a MoEWR, Tajikistan has generated a total of about 10.4 billion kWh of electricity over the first six months of this year, which is 7.2 percent fewer than in the same period last year.  

A totaled reportedly included 7,950,200,000 kWh of electricity generated by power plants of OJSC Barqi Tojik (the company responsible for generation of heat and electricity in Tajikistan), 1,308,800,000 kWh of electricity generated by the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant, 602,700,000 kWh generated by the Roghun hydropower plant, 393,600,000 kWh of electricity generated by the Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant, 111,700,000 kWh of electricity generated by OJSC Pamir Energy, and 5,300,000 kWh of electricity generated by small hydropower plants.  

Over the same six-month period, an average price of 1 kWh of electricity was 36.2 dirams, which is 5.9 dirams or 19.5 percent higher than in the same period last year.
