Eighty-six fatal accidents on water have been officially registered in Tajikistan over the first six months of this year, which two cases more compared to the same period last year, according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.

Of those killed in water accidents over the reporting period, eight are children under 4 years, nine are children aged 5-10, twenty-three are teens aged 11-16, twenty eight are people aged 17-35, and eight are people above the age of 35. 

Of those eighty-six people killed in water accidents, twenty-six are women.  

The Emergencies Committee says 25% of fatal water accidents are the result of negligence and 19% of other accidents have resulted from violating the rules of swimming in rivers and lakes.

In 9% of the water accidents, people drowned as a result of traffic accident, in other 9% of the water accidents children drowned due to parental neglect, 5% – suicide cases, in 2% of the fatal water accidents people drowned while intoxicated, and reasons for 12% of fatal water accidents are unknown.  .
