The balance of tax arrears as of July 1, 2023 amounted to 1.2 billion somonis (more than 113 million US dollars), the head of the Tax Committee under the Government of the country Nusratullo Davlatzoda told reporters in Dushanbe on August 8, 2024.
This, according to him, is 392.5 million somonis more compared to the same period in 2023.
According to Davlatzoda, inspections carried out over the same six-month period have revealed 10,500 violations of the tax legislation. A total amount of fines was 188 million somonis.
The chief tax officer also named the seven largest debtors, who together account for more than half of the total tax debts:
- Open Joint Stock Company (OJSC) Sangtudinskaya HPP-1 – 220 million somonis;
- OJSC Power Distribution Networks – 189 million somonis;
- Subordinate enterprises of the Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation under the Government of Tajikistan – 96 million somonis;
- Talco Resource LLC — 78 million somonis;
- Subordinate enterprises of the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Khojagii Manziliyu Kommunali (KMK – the state holding company for public utilities) – 76 million somonis;
- Ziddi coal deposit – 22 million somonis;
- OJSC Aluminsokhtmon – 20 million somonis.
According to data from the Tax Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, taxes in the amount of 740 million somonis had been forcibly collected from debtors in January-June last year.
