The Kremlin said yesterday it saw nothing particularly new in a threat by U.S. President Donald Trump to hit Russia with new sanctions and tariffs if it did not agree to end the war in Ukraine.

"He likes these methods, at least he liked them during his first presidency," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters at a briefing, according to TASS.

Peskov reportedly reiterated that Russia was ready for an equal and mutually respectful dialogue with the United States.

Kremlin spokesman acknowledged on Thursday that Russia faces economic "problems… as all countries do," but otherwise insisted that Moscow has the resources to meet "all military needs."

As it had been reported earlier, US President Donald Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin in a social media message on January 22 that if Russia didn't move to end its war in Ukraine, the United States would impose new tariffs, taxes and sanctions on Russian exports to the West.
