The fourth meeting of the Tajikistan-Kuwait intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation took place in between Tajikistan and Kuwait took place in Kuwait on February 5. 

Co-chaired by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Zavqi Zavqizoda, and the Minister of Finance, State Minister for Economic Affairs and Investments of Kuwait, Noora Suleiman Al Fassam, the meeting focused on the prospects for further cooperation between the two countries were outlined, and the parties discussed and agreed upon a roadmap for expanding trade, economic, investment, and tourism interaction, the press center of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) says.

The Tajik delegation put forward proposals to attract Kuwaiti investments into key sectors, including industry, mining, textiles, construction, agricultural processing, and tourism.

The parties reportedly also explored the creation of a joint investment fund to support large-scale investment projects.

It was noted during the meeting that to date, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has allocated about US$200 million for financing projects in the fields of transport, energy, irrigation, and infrastructure in Tajikistan.

The Tajik side reportedly appreciated KFAED’s financial backing of the construction of the Roghun hydropower and other significant infrastructure initiatives. 

During the meeting, the parties discussed steps to develop cooperation in the field of civil aviation and the potential establishment of a joint airline, funded by Kuwaiti investments, and the modernization of Tajikistan’s aviation infrastructure was a major topic of the discussions.  

Both countries reportedly stressed the need for direct flights between Dushanbe and Kuwait to strengthen connectivity.

The meeting ended with signing a protocol outlining specific steps to further deepen relations between the two nations.
