Several streets in Dushanbe will be temporarily closed to traffic from May 29 to 31 as the capital hosts the High-Level International Conference on Glacier Preservation.  The announcement was made by the city’s police department.

According to the statement, road closures will affect Mastongulov Street, Ahmadi Donish Street, Ayni Street, as well as Roudaki, Somoni, and Sherozi Avenues.  Authorities are urging drivers to avoid illegal parking in these areas and to use alternative routes whenever possible.

The security measures coincide with a major international event that is drawing global attention.

Over 2,200 delegates and 350 journalists expected

The glacier preservation conference, which will run from May 29 to 31 in Dushanbe, is expected to welcome more than 2,200 participants from 65 countries and 70 international organizations, according to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event is part of the International Year of Glacier Preservation, an initiative spearheaded by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and supported by over 150 UN member states.

Attendees will include government officials, UN representatives, international institutions, climate scientists, environmentalists, and activists.  The conference aims to become the region’s largest platform for dialogue on climate change and sustainable water resource management.

Media coverage will be extensive, with more than 350 journalists accredited, including 150 from international outlets such as Euronews, Al Jazeera, and major Iranian broadcasters.

A fully equipped media center with high-speed internet and live session broadcasts has been set up at the Kokhi Somon complex, the main venue for the conference.

Organizers hope the event will serve as a launching pad for new global initiatives aimed at protecting glaciers and addressing urgent climate challenges.
