On Tuesday July 29, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov held an informal working meeting at the Kyrgyz resort town of Cholpon-Ata to discuss the outcomes of their recent reciprocal state visits.

The Tajik president’s official website says the leaders engaged in a comprehensive discussion on the current state and future prospects of Tajik-Kyrgyz relations, focusing on friendship, good neighborliness, and cooperation.

The two presidents reportedly underscored the importance of deepening trade and economic ties and emphasized the advancement of the demarcation process of the state border between the two countries.

Rahmon and Japarov also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.

Recall, President Rahmon visited Kyrgyzstan on a state visit from March 13 to 14, during which 16 new bilateral cooperation agreements were signed.  The most significant among them was a treaty on the state border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

In response, President Japarov visited Tajikistan from July 8 to 9.  That visit resulted in the signing of a Confidence-Building Measures Agreement and 14 additional documents.

The leaders also issued a joint statement affirming their commitment to strengthening strategic partnership.
