Uzbek citizens who find themselves in difficult life situations while in Russia will be eligible for free temporary housing for up to 30 days, the Uzbek Agency for External Labor Migration has announced.
The support program reportedly targets migrants who have become homeless, are facing serious financial difficulties, or have been subjected to persecution, violence, or forced labor.
“If you are in a dire financial situation and without shelter, contact the Migration Agency’s representative office in Moscow (Polyanka subway station). After your case is reviewed, you will be provided with free accommodation for up to 30 days,” the agency stated.
As part of the initiative, the agency has already signed agreements with 15 hostels and hotels in Moscow and the Moscow region to offer temporary shelter to those in need.
Officials clarified that the program will not be limited to the capital region. It will soon be expanded to other parts of Russia where large numbers of Uzbek citizens live and work. This includes the Northwestern, Ural, Siberian, Far Eastern, and Southern federal districts.
Previously, the government of Uzbekistan developed a set of support measures for labor migrants abroad. These include access to funds from the country’s Migration Fund for covering medical expenses, temporary housing, repatriation, and the return of deceased citizens to their homeland.
