The Government of Tajikistan and the Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) Tajik Metallurgical Plant have signed an investment agreement for the construction and launch of an iron ore processing facility, the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest) reported on December 11.

The plant will be built using domestic investments and equipped with modern technologies. Its primary operations will include the extraction and processing of iron ore and associated minerals, as well as the production and export of high-quality products.

The project will be implemented in two phases: the first is scheduled to be operational by 2027; and the second by 2031.

The plant’s projected annual capacity is 2.5 million tons of ore, yielding approximately 1.1 million tons of concentrate.

In addition to replacing imports, the facility will be significantly export-oriented. Currently, 600 local and foreign specialists are involved in construction. Upon completion of the first phase, the plant is expected to create 1,200 jobs, and more than 2,000 permanent jobs upon full completion — all offering competitive wages.

The agreement is considered a key step in attracting both foreign and domestic investment and boosting the country’s industrial capacity. The facility will be located in the Bobojon-Ghafourov district of Sughd province.
