A potential violent group altercation involving minors was prevented in Dushanbe thanks to the prompt actions of law enforcement. The Department for Prevention of Offenses among Minors and Youth of the Dushanbe Police Directorate thwarted a planned incident of hooliganism, which was set to involve the use of cold weapons.
According to the city’s police, the situation unfolded near the Circus building on Qaraboyev Avenue, where a group of minors was found preparing for a confrontation. Officers had been conducting preventive measures when they identified the group.
An investigation reportedly revealed that a dispute had arisen between minors A. Sharipov and Yu. Abdulmuminzoda on Instagram on December 22, based on personal animosity. After exchanging messages, Sharipov invited his opponent to meet at a specific location. He arrived at the Circus building with a group of acquaintances, some of whom were carrying knives.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the police, a serious crime involving cold weapons was prevented, according to the Dushanbe Police Directorate.
"The minors and their parents have been counseled. Administrative protocols were filed against the parents of the minors under Article 90 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Tajikistan," the police’s statement noted.
The police emphasized the importance of parental involvement in children's upbringing and urged parents to monitor their children's behavior closely. Authorities also called on families to engage their children in constructive activities.
This incident follows a concerning trend of violent conflicts between minors involving cold weapons, which have previously led to severe consequences.
In November, a confrontation between groups of minors in Dushanbe’s Firdavsi district resulted in the death of a 16-year-old schoolboy, with another teen suffering severe injuries. Participants in the incident were detained, and an investigation is ongoing.
A similar case occurred in the city’s Sino district in November, where a 16-year-old teen was injured with a knife during a conflict.
Experts and law enforcement officials underscore the need for increased preventative measures and greater involvement from parents and educators in guiding young people.
Preventative activities involving families, schools, and youth groups are ongoing. Citizens are urged to pay closer attention to their children's behavior, react promptly to signs of aggression, and direct adolescents toward positive, constructive activities.
