, January 11, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov arrived Tuesday in the Kazakh capital Astana for Nursultan Nazarbayev’s presidential inauguration scheduled for January 11, presidential press service reported.  

Nursultan Nazarbayev has been in power since the country gained independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. He consolidated his position with a landslide election victory in early December 2005, winning 91% of the vote, and will serve for another seven years.

            For the first time, besides leaders of various countries, the UN Undersecretary General, OSCE Secretary General and the European Union’s Envoy for Central Asia will take part at a ceremony of Kazakh president’s inauguration.
