KHOROG, January 27, Asia-Plus — Heavy snowfalls have hit Gorno Badakhshan, and traffic on all roads from Khorog, capital of the region, has been suspended, Asia-Plus has learned from Qurbonmamad Mirzoshoyev, orderly officer of the GBAO emergency management agency.  

According to him, dozens of avalanches have been reported in many areas.

Kishvar Navruzshoyev, head of the GBAO meteorological department, has told Asia-Plus that at least 20-30 centimeters of snow fell in Khorog and the nearby districts of Shugnan, Roshtqala and Ishkashim.   “The snow is till continuing and workers cannot set to clearing the roads,” the Asia-Plus interlocutor said, adding that the risk of further avalanches remains.
