Government adopts 2006-2008 national investment program providing for drumming up US$528 million in foreign investments

DUSHANBE, March 1, Asia-Plus – A February 28 government session presided over by President Rahmonov considered some 30 issues.  

According to presidential press service, the government adopted the program on national investment, grants and technical assistance designed for 2006-2008.  This program provides for drumming up foreign investments for a total amount of 528 million U.S. dollars.  

The session also discussed a bill on inspection of activities of economic entities.  In this connection, the president demanded at the meeting that adequate measures should be taken to develop entrepreneurship, drumming up foreign investments, launching joint ventures and developing tourism industry in the republic.   Head of state, in particular, tasked to simplify visa regime for foreigners arriving in the country.  The bill was sent for consideration to the parliament.   

The meeting also endorsed draft amendments proposed to the Labor, Tax and Family Codes, as well as to the RT Laws “On Licensing Separate Kinds of Activity”, “On Precious Metals and Stones”.  

The session also adopted resolutions on holding of international forum of teachers and researchers of the Tajik-Persian literature and on the establishment of the national council for reforming pension system.  

 Rahmonov also pointed to the necessity of making timely preparations for the spring sowing campaign, providing cotton-growing farms with seeds, fertilizers and fuel, etc.
