DUSHANBE, March 4, 2009, Asia-Plus — According to the Dushanbe seismological station, a tremor measuring 2.0 on a 12-point scale jolted Dushanbe Tuesday evening, at 7:22 p.m.

Centered in the Rasht district, some 48 kilometers of the settlement of Hait (some 200 kilometers northeast of Dushanbe), the tremor could be felt in other regions as well.  In the epicenter, the tremor’s magnitude was 4.0.  The tremor measuring 3.0 was felt in the Rasht district, the source said.  No injured or damage was reported, according to him.

In the meantime, according to information received from the administrative center of GBAO’s Vanj district (more than 250 kilometers southeast of Dushanbe), quite a strong earthquake jolted the district Tuesday evening and a number of residential buildings were partially damaged.  According to residents of GBAO’s Shugnan district, quite a strong tremor was felt there as well.

According to specialists, some 600 earthquakes measuring 2.0-3.0 annually occur in Tajikistan that makes 80 % from total number of all earthquakes of Central Asia.  In Hait, the devastating earthquake occurred in 1948.  The tremor caused a landslide that killed 28,000 people.
