DUSHANBE, November 1, 2010, Asia-Plus  — For successful expansion of bilateral economic cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Tajikistan we are expecting more initiatives from Tajikistan itself, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign of Affairs of Saudi Arabia, H.R.H. Prince Ambassador/ Khaled bin Saud bin Khaled, told reporters in Dushanbe today after a meeting with President Emomali Rahmon.

According to him, Saudi Arabia has invested 75 million U.S. dollars in development of Tajik education, health and transportation sectors since Tajikistan gained independence.

“Besides, our country has invested some 190 million U.S. dollars in implementation of various projects in Tajikistan through the Asia Development Bank and I believe that Saudi Arabia is able to do a lot for development of the private sector in Tajikistan in the sequel,” His Highness Khaled bin Saud bin Khaled stressed.

He also noted that President Rahmon had acquainted him with a number of energy and rail link construction projects that Tajikistan planned to implement.  “I am sure my country will also participate in these projects and implementation of these projects will turn Tajikistan into one of leading countries of the region,” the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign of Affairs of Saudi Arabia noted.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the visiting Saudi delegation is also scheduled to hold talks with senior representatives of Tajikistan’s ministries of foreign affairs and finance.
