DUSHNABE, November 1, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Tajik cotton growers fulfilled this year’s cotton target, determined at 300,000 tons of raw cotton, last Friday and continuing to gather cotton in addition to the target.

By November 1, the country’s cotton producing districts have yielded 303,700 tons of raw cotton, which is 101.3 percent of the target, according to the crop sector directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

Farmers in the southern Khatlon province have gathered 198,500 tons of cotton by this day, which is 102.4 percent of the target.  Khatlon’s cotton target for this year was determined at 194,000 tons.

The cotton producing districts in the northern Sughd province have yielded more than 90,000 tons of cotton by November 1, which is 97.8 percent of their target, determined at 92,000 tons of cotton.

The cotton producing districts subordinate to the center have overfulfilled their cotton target for this year by 8.6 percent, having gathered 15,200 tons of cotton by November 1.  Their cotton target for this year was determined at 14,000 tons of cotton, the source said.

We will recall that 160,400 hectares have been allotted to cotton cultivation in the country this year.  In 2009, 170,400 hectares were allotted to the cotton cultivation and Tajik farmers yielded 296,000 tons of cotton last year.
