DUSHANBE, October 2, 2010, Asia-Plus  — On Friday October 1, President Emomali Rahmon sent a telegram of congratulations to his Chinese counterpart, President Hu Jintao, over the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, presidential press service said.

In his message, President Rahmon, in particular, noted that based on its great cultural and historical heritage, China has made impressive progress in various spheres in recent years.  Due to its immense authority China plays an important positive role in world affairs.

Tajik leader noted that Tajikistan attaches important significance to its bilateral relations with China and highly appraises the high level of many-sided cooperation that has been reached over the past several years.

Rahmon expressed confidence that relations of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and China will expand in the future as well.

The National Day of the People”s Republic of China is celebrated every year on October 1. It is a public holiday in the People”s Republic of China to celebrate its national day.  The PRC was founded on October 1, 1949 with a ceremony at Tiananmen Square.  The Central People”s Government passed the Resolution on the National Day of the People”s Republic of China on December 2, 1949 and declared that October 1 is the National Day.  The National Day is celebrated throughout mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau with a variety of government-organized festivities, including fireworks and concerts.

China is the world”s most populous country, with a continuous culture stretching back nearly 4,000 years.
