DUSHANBE, October 1, 201, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of Tajik parliament (Majlisi Oli) has endorsed the draft law “On Social Care of Disabled People.”

The first sitting of the second session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation, presided over by its speaker, Shukurjon Zuhurov, took place on October 1.

Presenting the bill, Minister of Labor and Social Care of the Population, Mahmadamin Mahmadaninov, noted that some 152,000 disabled people have been registered in the country and 20,000 of them are children.

This year’s national budget earmarked more than 84 million somoni for providing pensions, allowances, medicines and medical treatment to persons with disabilities and this figure will be raised to 97 million somoni in 2011, the minister said.

“When working out the bill, the authors studied experiences of the CIS nations in ensuring social care of disabled people and the draft low meets requirements of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities,” Mahmadaminov said.
