DUSHANBE, September 14, 2010, Asia-Plus — Like other Central Asian states, Tajikistan is gradually coming out of the global financial and economic crisis, Mr. Todd Schneider, the new head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Tajikistan, told reporters today after a meeting with President Emomali Rahmon.

According to Mr. Schneider, he and Tajik leader discussed the process of implementation of the IMF-sponsored projects in Tajikistan.  “Within two weeks we will study the country’s economic development and give prognosis on development of Tajikistan’s economy for the second half-year of 2010 and for 2011,” he said.

The IMF official noted that a favorable picture was currently observed in Tajikistan’s economy.  “Inflation for the first seven months was very low and the country’s economic growth rate stood at some 7 percent over the report period; these indices are not bad,” he added.

Mr. Schneider also noted that the IMF mission today met with Tajikistan’s economic team.
