DUSHANBE, July 24, 2010, Asia-Plus — Tajik state natural-gas distributor, Tojiktransgaz, has paid off its US$2 million debt to Uzbekistan, the Tojiktransgaz director general Saidmahmad Sharofiddinov announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on Friday July 23.

He noted Uzbekistan has increased natural-gas shipments to Tajikistan and the country now receives 26,000 cubic meters of Uzbek gas per day.

Sharofiddinov said the empties producing plant, Lal, remains the most incorrigible nonpayer.  “Lal now owes 1.2 million U.S. dollars to Tojiktransgaz,” noted.

We will recall that Tajikistan will buy 250 million cubic meters of natural gas from Uzbekistan this year and the gas price vary quarterly depending on the world trends.  Uzbekistan still set gas price for Tajikistan at the rate of 240 U.S. dollars per 1,000 cubic meters and Tajikistan must make prepayments every ten days.
