KHUJAND. May 27. “Asia-Plus” — A teenaged girl reported struck by lightning while working on one of cotton fields in Sughd area.

According to the regional emergency and civil defense service for Sughd area, heavy rainfalls accompanied by lightning hit Sughd area on May 26.

The victim, 16-year-old girl from Ovchi-Kalacha Jamoat of Bobojongafurov region Mahina Abdurahmonova was struck by lightning while working on a local cotton field. The girl died at the scene.

According to the source, yesterday’s strong wind and heavy rainfalls have destroyed 20 huge trees in Khujand which blocked the traffic and local drainage channels. A series of power transmission lines reported damaged leaving several villages without electricity. The roads and electric power transmission lines were restored by the evening May 26.
