DUSHANBE, February 18, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s law enforcement authorities deny report released by some media that ex-Minister of Interior Mahmadnazar Solehov was allegedly placed under home arrest as absolutely ”unfounded.”
Centrasia.ru on February 16 reproduced an article authored by certain Firouz Mirnazarshoyev from tajmigrant.com, which says that Mahmadnazar Solehov was placed under home arrest. According to the article, an order on placing the ex-minister under home arrest was allegedly made by the president on return from foreign trip.
In the meantime, Tajik law enforcement authorities have not confirmed this information. First deputy Tajik chief prosecutor, Abdusami Dadaboyev, in particular, said, “We do not have such information.” Major-General Tohir Normatov, the chief of staff of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), noted that Tajikistan’s legislation did not have a sanction such as “home arrest.” According to him, that information is no more than rumors.
We will recall that Mahmadnazar Solehov was relieved of his post of Minister of Interiors on January 29, 2009.
