DUSHANBE, February 18, 2009, Asia-Plus — Uzbekistan remains the main trading partner of Tajikistan in the region, Tajik Deputy Prime Minister Murodali Alimardon remarked, while inaugurating a joint session of the Tajik-Uzbek intergovernmental commissions for economic cooperation and demarcation and delimitation of common border in Dushanbe today.
For his part, Uzbek Prime Minister also Finance Minister Rustam Azimov expressed hope that the session of the joint economic commission would create favorable conditions for further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic and water-and-energy spheres.
The session of The Tajik-Uzbek intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation, co-chaired by Murodali Alimardon and Rustam Azimov, is being held in two sections: trade and economic cooperation; and working group for considering water-and-energy issues.
The commission for demarcation and delimitation of common border, co-chaired by border service chiefs of the two countries is considering issues related to delineation of Tajik-Uzbek border. Tajikistan’s common border with Uzbekistan is 1,106 kilometers and it remains to solve issues on disputable territory of 60 kilometers.
The results of the commissions’ work are expected to be summed up today afternoon, at 4:00 p.m.
