DUSHANBE, February 18, 2009, Asia-Plus — According to data provided by the State Committee for Statistics, compared to December 2008 the consume price index (CPI) in the country amounted to 100.4 percent.
Compared to December 2008 prices of products of the food industry decreased by 5 percent.
The cost of the set of food products included in the consumer basket for actual consumption (based on figures from households studied during 2007) in prices as of the end of January 2009 was 89.04 somoni per one family member per month, and with the norm for a balanced diet it was 181.08 somoni.
Compared to December 2008 non-foodstuffs rose in cost by 0.1 percent during January 2009 with the prices increasing most significantly for gasoline – by 5.7 percent.
In January 2009, prices and rates for services rendered to the population increased by 5.3 percent. The ones that increased most significantly were: payment for electric energy – 25 percent, payment for natural gas – 63.6 percent, , tickets for rail travel – 34 percent, tickets for air travels – 5.1 percent, and payment for water and sewage services – 3.9 percent. Meanwhile over the report period prices of liquefied gas and passenger transportation services decreased by 10.1 and 1.9 percent respectively.
