DUSHANBE, April 12, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Four judges have been implicated in wrongdoing over the first three months of this year and disciplinary and administration action has been imposed upon them, Zafar Azizov, the head of the Council of Justice (Shuroi Adliya), announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on April 12.

“To raise professionalism of judges we conduct training seminars for them every two months and judges passing unfair sentences will be punished in accordance with law,” Azizov said.

According to him, M. Nouriddinov, a judge from court in Dushanbe’s Firdavsi district, faces criminal liability for passing unfair sentence.

“Only one case of corruption was revealed among judges in 2009 and the corrupt judge get a jail term,” the head of the Council of Justice said.

In the meantime, the Council of Justice has received 236 applications from citizens over the first three months of this year.  “145 of them have been received through President’s Executive Office, 69 applications have been received through the Parliament and 22 other applications have been received through other instances,” Azizov said.

Over the same three-month period, 2,078 criminal cases have moved to courts, which is 59 cases more than in the same period last year.  Besides, 5,684 civil cases have moved to courts over the report period and 3,761 of them have been considered to this day. Azizov added.
