DUSHANBE, March 15, 2010, Asia-Plus  – Presentation of the guide for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on paying taxes took place at the Tax Committee in Dushanbe on March 12.

The event members included representatives from the government institutions, business associations, a number of international organizations active in the country and media.

According to Ayubjon Soliyev, the first deputy head of the Tax Committee, the guide was developed by the Tax Committee and National Association of Small and Medium Business (NASMB) with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Business Environment Improvement (BEI) Project.

“The guide is intended for representatives of SMEs, first of all, those who have just started their businesses,” said Soliyev.  “Accounting service of this category of entrepreneurs is frequently not so strong that leads to violation of accounting rules and computation of taxes.”

The tax official stressed that the guide was just and auxiliary document and did not include all provisions of the existing tax legislation.  The guide was developed in accordance with new amendments to the Tax Code that took effect on January 1, 2010.

The guide contains brief information about the main taxes paid by SMEs, existing tax rates, tax base, tax computation procedure and a calendar of tax payments for 2010, he said.

BEI Tajikistan Country Manager Nouralil Shukurov noted that the guide had been prepared in two languages with circulation a 1,000 and would be distributed to entrepreneurs and tax services of the country.
