DUSHANBE, February 26, 2010, Asia-Plus  — On Friday February 26, ten Tajik students received Mendeleyev Scholarships instituted by the Russian Development Foundation, Institute for Eurasian Studies.

Based on submissions and recommendations by academic councils of their universities, these students were selected as scholarship recipients for surveys conducted in 2009.

Five of recipients are from Dushanbe and the others are from universities in Khorog (1), Khujand (2), Kulob (1) and Qurghon Teppa (1).

Students will get scholarships worth US$50.00 per month during a semester (six months).

The scholarship awards ceremony was attended by Tajik Minister of Education Abdujabbor Rahmonov, Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Yuri Popov and Vice-President of the Institute for Eurasian Studies Development Foundation Alexander Gerr.

For the first time, Tajik students received the Mendeleyev scholarships in February 2009.

Established in May 2005, the Institute for Eurasian Studies Development Foundation opened its first representative office in Tajikistan.  It was opened in Khujand, Sughd province in June 2009.  Today, the Foundation affiliates operate Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Abkhazia as well.
