DUSHANBE, February 9, 2009, Asia-Plus  — In 2008, Tajikistan stood in the fourth place among the CIS states in terms of inflation, according to the CIS interstate Committee for Statistics.

The CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics said that in Tajikistan, inflation for 2008 stood at 20.4 percent.

According to figures provided by the CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics, Ukraine topped the CIS states in terms of inflation for 2008 – 25.2 percent.  Ukraine was followed by Kyrgyzstan (24.5 percent) and Azerbaijan (20.8 percent).         

Kazakhstan (17 percent), Belarus (14.8 percent), Russia (14.1 percent) and Moldova (12.7 percent) were also listed within the galloping inflation zone that includes countries with annual inflation rate standing at 10 to 50 percent.  Experts noted that such countries required urgent anti-inflation measures.

Relatively low inflation was reported in Armenia and Georgia – 9 percent and 10 percent respectively.  An average inflation within the CIS area for 2008 was 17 percent. 

 The CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics does not have inflation rates for Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in its report.

We will recall that according to data of the Tajik government, inflation for 2008 stood 11.8 percent, which was 7.9 percent fewer than in 2007.
