DUSHANBE, December 2, 2009, Asia-Plus  — During his visit to the northern province of Sughd, President Emomali Rahmon tasked local authorities and heads of relevant ministries and organizations to remove all existing shortcomings.

This came during an address to a meeting of the Sughd regional administrators in the city of Qairoqqum on December 1.

According to presidential press service, the meeting reviewed Sughd’s economic results in the first ten months of this year and determined ways of further development of the province.

Speaking at the meeting, Rahmon drew attention of those present to the necessity of ensuring organization and holding of transparent and democratic parliamentary elections in the country.  This important political event due in February 2010 should play a unificatory role in society, the president stressed.

President Rahmon once again called on the people of the country to help complete construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP).

He noted that some 600 million U.S. dollars were needed to introduce the first line of the plant into operation; for this, all Tajik families, except the vulnerable ones, should buy shares in Roghun for not less than 3,000 somoni each.  Rahmon stressed in his speech that shares in Roghun would be realized only to citizens of Tajikistan. 

We will recall that last month, the Tajik head of state he was confident that the Tajik people would everything they can to help complete the Roghun hydroelectricity project.  Tajik lawmakers have expanded the effort by calling on people to buy shares in Roghun that would be made available for trading on the country”s stock market in 2010.
