Tajikistan to be hit by mudflows and a dust storm

The water level in the rivers will rise.

Asia+

From May 18 to 20, mudflows are expected in most regions of Tajikistan due to the forecasted precipitation. The exception is the eastern part of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), the Agency for Hydrometeorology of Tajikistan (Hydromet) reports.

Meteorologists note that on May 18 and 19, there will be an increase in water levels in the Zeravshan, Obihingob, Vakhsh, Yakhsu, Kyzylsu (southern), as well as rivers flowing from the southern slopes of the Gissar Range, due to precipitation.

In Dushanbe, a light rain is expected tomorrow.

From May 18, in the southern cities and districts of the Khatlon province, an increase in air pollution with suspended particles (dust), particles 10 microns (PM-10) and particles 2.5 microns (PM-2.5) is expected.

The cause will be a dust storm and haze coming from the south and southwest.

Citizens are advised to take precautions during adverse weather conditions, avoid dangerous areas near rivers and mudflow channels, and, if air quality deteriorates, to stay indoors as much as possible.
