A meeting of the Tajik-Iranian joint intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation was held in Dushanbe, reports the press service of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The meeting was chaired by the co-chairs of the commission — the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, Daler Juma, and the Minister of Energy of Iran, Abbas Aliabadi.
The parties noted that Iran remains one of Tajikistan’s important trade and economic partners, and bilateral cooperation has shown growth in recent years. According to the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Tajikistan, in the first quarter of 2026, the foreign trade turnover between Tajikistan and Iran amounted to $119.6 million. This is $8.9 million, or 8%, more than in the same period last year.

The parties discussed the development of bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade and economy, energy, water resources, industry, transport, investment, science and technology, as well as other areas of mutual interest.
The head of the Ministry of Energy of Tajikistan, speaking at the meeting, welcomed the Iranian delegation and noted that thanks to the political will of the leaders of the two countries, the relations between Tajikistan and Iran have reached a new level of development.
According to him, the results of the next meeting of the commission should contribute to the further strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation, the launch of new joint projects, and the determination of new areas of interaction between the two countries.
At the end of the meeting, the co-chairs signed the protocol of the 18th meeting of the joint commission.
However, trade between the countries remains unbalanced: Tajikistan imports significantly more from Iran than it exports there. The basis of Tajik exports to Iran is cotton fiber, while the main goods supplied from Iran include petrochemical products, building materials, food products, and polymers.
