New laws “On Education” and “On the Status of Scientists” entered into force in Turkmenistan. The laws were adopted at the third meeting of the Mejlis of the fourth convocation on 15 August and approved by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The texts of new laws were published in the central press of Turkmenistan.

According to the preamble of the law “On education”, it “regulates social relations in the sphere of education, defines basic principles of the state education policy, as well as objectives, tasks and functions of the education system and its management”. The law also provides for a number of innovations, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat.

For example, the law authorizes the establishment of the country”s private educational institutions and educational institutions of foreign countries in which the primary language of instruction will be an appropriate foreign language(s).

Educational institutions can be founded by state government bodies, local governments, domestic and foreign organizations of all forms of ownership, public associations registered in the territory of Turkmenistan, Turkmen citizens and foreign nationals. However, educational institutions of all types and forms carrying out educational programs for training of staff of military and law enforcement agencies “can be founded only by the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.”
